The story of Raimundos, whose name is a Brazilian play on the American punk band Ramones, began in 1987 in Brasília. Formed by neighbors Digão and Rodolfo Abrantes, the band quickly established itself with a powerful fusion of hardcore punk and northeastern rhythms like forró, a style they would later call forrocore.

As the decade progressed, Raimundos proved they were more than a novelty punk act. Cesta Básica (1996) continued their upward trajectory, but it was the live album, Lapadas do Povo (1997), that showcased their true power as a performing unit. It was a commercial juggernaut, selling over a million copies. Crucially, it introduced a pivotal shift in their songwriting: the acoustic ballad "Sim barroco, não demais." This song proved that Rodolfo could write tender, melodic tracks, broadening the band’s appeal beyond the skate-punk subculture.
