While global platforms like Viki and Netflix have made Asian content more accessible, Romanian fans have historically relied on grassroots translation efforts to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps. Through a mixed-methods approach—combining content analysis of the blog’s subtitle archives, semi-structured interviews with the blog’s administrator (“Aniola”), and discourse analysis of comment sections—this study examines how the blog functions as both a translation hub and a cultural mediator. Findings suggest that Blogul lui Aniola operates as a low-resource but high-impact site of linguistic hospitality, where Romanian fans co-construct meaning, negotiate cultural references (e.g., Confucian values, historical metaphors), and develop a localized fandom lexicon. The paper argues that such blogs not only democratize access to Chinese media but also foster a unique Romanian reception framework for understanding contemporary Chinese society, gender roles, and narrative tropes.
