To play classic Dota 1, you must first install Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos followed by the expansion, The Frozen Throne. Option A: The Official Blizzard Route (Reforged)

You will need your original Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne CD-ROMs or digital backup installers.

These represent the final "official" eras of IceFrog's balance updates before development shifted entirely to Dota 2. They are highly recommended for the standard nostalgic experience.

: Look for community-archived versions of the original installer discs online.

: Older Warcraft 3 versions (pre-1.27b) have an 8MB map size limit. If you are trying to play a modern, feature-rich community map, you must download a community "Map Size Limit Bypass Patch" ( game.dll modification) or update your client to patch 1.28+.
