Every time you print, clean the printheads, or flush the ink lines, a small amount of waste ink is directed to physical foam pads at the bottom of the machine. The printer estimates this volume using an internal waste ink counter. Once this counter hits 100%, the printer locks itself for safety to prevent ink from leaking onto your desk.
