She hides in the trunk of her father’s sedan, hoping to be driven past the gates. The film ends on an agonizingly ambiguous note, with the camera staring at the closed trunk of the car parked at the father's workplace. There are dance competitions where the prize is a sticker. There are mandatory viewings of the father’s home movies—tapes of VCR static that the children are told are Hollywood blockbusters. There is the “punishment” of being made to crawl on all fours and bark like a dog.
