The plot follows the young and incredibly gifted driver, Speed Racer, who is driven by the memory of his legendary deceased older brother, Rex. Living in a world where major corporate interests fix races for profit, Speed refuses a lucrative but dishonest offer from the powerful Royalton Industries, putting his family's team, Racer Motors, in grave danger. To save his family's legacy and expose the corruption, Speed enters the deadly cross-country rally known as "The Crucible," the same race that claimed his brother's life.
