Official advice for the exam emphasizes: "If you don't know a word, explain it with other words you know." This is a key A2 strategy. For example, if you have forgotten the word for "thermometer" ( thermomètre ) during a doctor role-play, you could say: "The thing you put in your mouth to see if you have a fever" (which in French could be "la chose que tu mets dans la bouche pour voir si tu as de la fièvre"). This shows your communicative competence far more than falling silent.

You and the examiner engage in a situational dialogue. You will draw two situation cards and pick one. Examples include buying a train ticket, inviting a friend to the movies, or ordering food at a café.
