Vitreous floaters are opacities within the eye's vitreous body that cast shadows on the retina, appearing as spots, threads, or cobwebs in a person's field of vision. : Formally cataloged as IGF project 21011 N

The research results were groundbreaking. The team successfully demonstrated the , and even showed that the laser could be automatically activated when the target was reached. By using femtosecond lasers, they were able to successfully break down floaters with much lower pulse energies (as low as 10 µJ), significantly reducing the risk of collateral damage to the surrounding eye tissues.
