Three Days Of The Condor Internet Archive Extra Quality -

When director Sydney Pollack acquired the rights, he believed the book's central premise was its "wonderful, elegant plot," not its specific details. Working with screenwriter Lorenzo Semple Jr., the filmmakers dramatically reshaped the source material, famously shortening the timeline from six days to three. According to Pollack, the adaptation process involved a fundamental change: "I didn't want the original plot to smuggle heroin. I wanted the plot to be about something less tangible and more frightening. ... A conspiracy to control the future". This thematic shift transformed a straightforward potboiler into a resonant political thriller.

The film has an intriguing production history. Originally, the project was set up with Warren Beatty in the lead role, but Beatty spent so long deciding whether to accept that producer Dino De Laurentiis eventually offered the part to Robert Redford instead. Redford then insisted on replacing director Peter Yates with his frequent collaborator, Sydney Pollack. three days of the condor internet archive
